The Segantii Asia Pacific Equity Multi Strategy Fund has brought in former Samsung Securities executive Niral Maru as head of legal and compliance. The move further highlights the fund’s initiative to build a robust platform which appeals to institutional investors.
Segantii won the highly-coveted 2012 AsiaHedge Fund of the Year award at the awards dinner held at the Island Shangri-La in Hong Kong last month.
The Hong Kong-based fund, which has seen a significant escalation in assets under management to $620 million this year on the back of solid performance and considerable investor interest, has been beefing up its team with several high profile hires of late.
These include former BlueCrest Capital Management partner Nigel Hellewell, who joined as COO; former Factorial management executive Lewis Fellas; and former Credit Suisse executive Kirtes Bharti. The new hires this year has brought the size of team at Segantii to 21 from only 15 at the beginning of the year.
A veteran of the Asian financial markets, Maru worked as the former managing director and regional head of legal and compliance at Samsung Securities, prior to joining Segantii. Before that, he was a compliance officer with Orchard Capital Partners and Stark Investments.
The London School of Economics graduate had also worked in various compliance positions at Credit Suisse and at the Indian regulatory body, SEBI.
