NYSE Euronext's Laura Morrison on the ABCs of ETFs

Morrison, who leads the exchange-traded products business at NYSE Euronext, talks to Alpha about the rapid growth of ETFs and how hedge funds are shaping the industry.

On January 29, 1993, Boston-based State Street Global Advisors launched the first U.S. exchange-traded fund, which debuted on the American Stock Exchange in lower Manhattan. That same year Laura Morrison moved to New York City from South Florida to take a job on the trading floor at CMJ Partners, a New York Stock Exchange designated market maker (now part of Barclays Capital).

Since then the ETF industry has experienced explosive growth, and Morrison, senior vice president of global index and exchange-traded products for NYSE Euronext, has been along for the most exciting part of the ride.
