Steven Cohen, founder of SAC Capital Advisors, has committed to being one of ten owners of a $20 million stake in the New York Mets. The ball club has been courting new investors, including a failed deal with Greenlight Capital founder David Einhorn, since the owners’ exposure to Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme caused them severe financial problems. Reportedly out of the running for the Mets last year, Cohen turned his sights on the cash-strapped Los Angeles Dodgers, for which he is still bidding. Owning the Dodgers would mean Cohen would have to sell his Mets shares.
