For Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio, the unconstructive political and social bickering between the left and the right and the haves and have-nots could lead to dire consequences. Dalio appeared on Charlie Rose to explain and shortly thereafter wrote in an op-ed for the Financial Times: “If we calm down and work together to properly manage this difficult situation . . . we can get through this deleveraging without great pain. If we can’t, we may experience an economic, social and political collapse.” In other news, Dalio and his wife, Barbara, recently made a $10 million challenge grant to the Robin Hood Foundation, the hedge fund–heavy charity that combats poverty in New York City. In April the Dalios signed on to the Giving Pledge, the effort by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett to encourage America’s wealthiest to give more than half their wealth to charity.
