June 01, 2011   Lawrence Delevingne

Well-known conservative hedge fund managers are driving an effort to legalize gay marriage in New York, following a similar effort in California. Paul Singer of Elliott Management, Steve Cohen of SAC Capital Advisors, Cliff Asness of AQR Capital Management (pictured) and Dan Loeb of Third Point have recently given about $1 million combined to support New Yorkers United for Marriage, according to the New York Times. In September, Singer and Peter Thiel of Clarium Capital Management joined with Republican political operative and KKR head of public affairs Ken Mehlman to host a fundraiser for the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
