NBC’s 30 Rock pokes fun at John Paulson

The macro Midas gets a main street mocking.

Jack Donaghy, apparently, likes John Paulson parties. Alec Baldwin’s star character on hit NBC sitcom 30 Rock joked about attending “John Paulson’s Sweet $16 billion party” in an episode Thursday, apparently a reference to the manger’s real life Metropolitan Club dinner in 2008, which feted his firm’s astounding success amid the financial crisis.

As DealBook notes, $16 billion is a bit of an exaggeration—Paulson & Co. actually made $15 billion from its subprime bet, which has been called “the greatest trade ever.”

But who’s counting? Paulson personally made some $5 billion in 2010, according to AR’s exclusive Rich List, coming out Friday.
