Scotia Capital’s Patrick Blessing to tackle 200km bike ride for cancer hospital

March 08, 2010

Blessing is seeking sponsorship ahead of a two-day ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls.

Patrick Blessing, global head of prime brokerage at Scotia Capital, will cycle more than 200 kilometers (roughly 125 miles) in one weekend in June, in the hope of raising at least C$10,000 for Toronto’s Princess Margaret Hospital, a cancer research center.

Blessing is one of thousands signed up to take part in the grueling ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls over June 12-13. All proceeds from The Ride to Conquer Cancer will go to the Princess Margaret, Canada’s leading institution devoted to cancer research and care, and one of the five top cancer hospitals worldwide.

"Training for a bike race in the depths of the Canadian winter is never easy," Blessing told AR, "but the ride is for an excellent cause that has raised nearly C$30 million over the last two years." He began training a month ago and soon realized how tough the race is going to be. "I used to cycle regularly, but having three kids in under four years has impacted my training time, so I’ll really need to ramp up the training over the next few weeks," said Blessing. "I’m sure it will involve pulling a kid or two in my bike trailer!"

Generous donations have already been pouring in and Blessing has raised nearly C$7,000 so far. To make a donation and help him reach his target, click here.
